TRAINING ON GENDER AND CLIMATE CHANGE

League of Queens International Empowerment with support from Urgent Action Fund

engaged 30 young women in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, on Gender and climate change.


The objective of the 2days training is awareness creation for young women to

understand the issues of climate change in the state. And by the end of the training, participants were able to identify climate change evidence which are, increase in temperature, changes in rainfall and nature, sea level rises, flooding and food insecurity.




There was also discussions on approaches to combat climate change like walking instead of driving a car, reducing of heat air conditioning in your home, and using compact fluorescent light bulb. Further discussion was done on human activities causes of climate change like burning of fossil fuel, cutting of trees, flaring gas, oil spillage and the multinational company pouring the chemicals into the sea which kills all the aquatic lives.


Finally, the participants had groupwork and presented on how will they

help to reduce activities that causes climate change in their communities. And the training was concluded with an action plan from each group where they identified areas of intervention and action points for implementation.
