Roundtable Discussion on the Impacts of Covid-19 on Young Women

League of Queens International empowerment, on the 10th of December 2020, held a roundtable discussion on the risk and safety of young women during Covid 19 crisis. A total of 25 young women who attended this roundtable shared their views and experiences during the lockdown and how their means of livelihood was affected. Below are some of the keypoint issues that were raised:
1. Markets were closed
2. Some items in the shops spoiled and/or expired.
3. Frustration and depression set in.
4. Roadside sellers got their goods destroyed by task force operatives.
5. A lot of people lost their jobs.
6. Increase in domestic violence amongst couples because of frustration.
7. Increase in crime.
8. Security agents harassing young women
9. Increased divorce rate.
10. Young women unhappy and lack of faith in the government's handling of the measures to address Covid 19
